What is this?

Hello. Menopresto.net is a little place set-up so that a few people can have their very own email, without having to use the services of a big company. There is also room for personal websites, instant messaging, and various other Internet miscellanea.

Why bother?

A handful of large companies will give us an e-mail account and various other services at zero cost. Although the services are often attractive, our privacy is often trampled on the way. Personal information, private conversations, our tastes, emotions, and exchanges are all monetized.

(running all those services costs money. A lot of it. If you are skeptical, ask yourself how they buy their lunch, and spend ten minutes to read the terms of use of the service.)

Get your own e-mail, however and this all stops. Here is when it comes to the distiction between software that is merely free as in "no cost", and free as in freedom.

Who is that?

This is all run by one person, Olivier Cleynen.

Olivier really, really regrets that he doesn't have time and resources to let everyone in. If you met him already and would like to set your e-mail up at menopresto, please get in touch.
Otherwise, with a little money and will, you can start your own little extravaganza.

What's in it?

• An e-mail address of your own (you@menopresto.net, accessible from the web or with your favorite application);
• An instant messaging account;
• A web space of your own to host your blog or other (in the form of http://you.menopresto.net/);

But most of all, the freedom of using the web fully without surveillance, data analysis, or privacy intrusion.
