June 2009 Server change

What?

Unfortunately our hosting company has abruptly changed the email configuration of menopresto. This means that you need to change a few things in your e-mail settings.

This is not difficult to do, just a little confusing.

In summary

The server name address will change from:
janky.mail.dreamhost.com

to:
sub3.homie.mail.dreamhost.com

All of your other settings (including your e-mail address, your password) will not change. No e-mail will be lost in the process.

If you do not make this change, you will be cut off from your e-mail untill you do.

How to do the change

Changing the settings is done in your e-mail program. Here are instructions for Thunderbird.

  1. Open up your accounts settings. Thunderbird account settings
  2. Find your Menopresto e-mail account on the left pane. Select the "Server settings" entry as shown below.
Thunderbird account settings Currently your server address should look like janky.mail.dreamhost.com or perhaps a1.balanced.janky.mail.dreamhost.com

You will need to change this address for the new one, which is :
    sub3.homie.mail.dreamhost.com
  3. In the left pane, select the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" entry, as shown below. We are going to modify the address for the SMTP server as well. Thunderbird SMTP settings Click the "Edit" button on the right, so we can change the address.

A new window comes up. Thunderbird SMTP address Currently Your address should look like janky.mail.dreamhost.com or perhaps a1.balanced.janky.mail.dreamhost.com.

  4. That's all.
